What is synergy?How is synergy used? why is synergy important? Have I used synergy in my own products?
Everything under the same brand umbrella promotes each other. This connection helps rase awareness of a product and increase it popularity and make marketing more effective.
Mega franchises.
Bigger companies have a larger budget and can pay for better production , merchandise and more this holds them above companies that can't compete as of there lower budget. Mega franchises get what they can't out of there products such as films like harry potter , Starwars but also companies like pixel , dream work , disney, 20th century.
Example of mega franchise synergy. For this example I am going to use harry potter.
Harry potter is a large franchise and has roughly a £25 billion franchise.

-0.6 billon from rentals
-7.3 billion from toys
With 7 books and 8 movies there is many products that can be made from the movie. There are 2 harry potter worlds, games on a range of console from Ps2 to Xbox 360s ect. There are action figures and replicas of wands and props . There is an online harry potter shop which has games , clothes, mugs ect. In addition they can also make products for things within the franchises such as houses. There is even a real game based of quiditch and universities have clubs a round the franchise, . It really shows the popularity of the franchise. Later on the author wrote a play called the cursed child and there was movie made around the harry potter universe called fantastic beasts and where to find them.
Harry potter synergy
As of the popularity of the books there was a lot of attention on the film release, adverts, articles and more where displayed about the first harry potter movie. This helps gain a higher profit to the film with the other books becoming movie inevitable it was clear the cycle would continue.
Harry potters branding.
Harry potter formed a strong brand as it developed as it would have 7 films after the first. They have a well known brand. An example of this would the be font and colours used. The font through all the dvs and posters keep the rough edged Lightening bolt look as it has relevance to the protagonist. The background colours of harry potter posters and Dvds develop as the story does and in some cases we the them getting darker like the themes and fate within the films.
The first harry potter starts with a bright blue background and then to the end its a dark and murky green.
The use of main characters is also evident on promotional things and there branding plus the use of the colours and houses of the school in the book.
Although harry potter doesn't have a direct link to my genre , I used to as research as of its popularity and as a way to gain a good understanding of the branding and synergy.
Shutter island branding
Shutter island is a movie based around a US marshal investigating the disappearance of a murder from a hospital for the criminally insane.
Dark and mysterious colours are used such as dark blues, blacks and greys to create that sense of shadow and danger this evident on many things such as the poster to the DVD covers. The colours also match's the lighting used through the trailer which keep it dark or use greys and white to form a foggy unclear atmosphere. This gives the an era feel which is key to creating the feeling of unease and build of suspense in thrillers.
Another key branding aspect for the film was having the main character portrayed by Leonardo dicaprio. His face and name was included in the trailer , on posters and in magazines. This is because he is a successful actor with a good reputation which creates that image for the film. Fans of him , his work and his skill will be willing to watch the movie.
Font and easy way to brand is a font or a logo/ symbol in this case the same font is used.
